Civil rights is one of the most important and essential aspects of life in the United States. The country has moved away from the discrimination and prejudices of older powers in its history. The US has come to emphasize the importance of the equal treatment of all people according to the law. This idea is clearly expressed in the Declaration of Independence when it stated that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".


Unfortunately, there have been many reports of discriminations throughout the history of the United States, such as discrimination against black people, religious communities, women and even slavery. However, the country and its government have taken the initiative to protect the interests of all citizens. They did this through the by taking care of certain measures like the 5th Amendment. This amendment states that "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States". This limits the right of states to make laws that harm the interests of the people.


Although it is unfortunate that discriminations have been carried out in the past, it is clear that the United States is taking steps in the right direction to ensure the civil rights of all citizens, as well as to ensure that the same tragedies never happen again.
